It was a drawn out week with a lot going on. It all started with the Men’s Handicap Pairs Grand Final between Chris Davidson & Shane Stevenson VS Pete Macaulay & Wolfgang Dickmann being played on an abnormal day due to other commitments.
It fell on the Wednesday and it was hyped to be a top match with both teams displaying their strength during the lead up rounds. However, it got off to a one sided start, with Pete & Wolfgang leading with a big fat 13-0. But it wasn’t long until Chris & Shane woke up the sleeping giant and got to work. Chasing Pete & Wolfgang all the way to the end in a back and forth match that literally went down to the last end.
Peter Macaulay & Wolfgang Dickmann did just enough to get their nose over the line in a nail biting finish, taking home this years Men’s Handicap Pairs crown with an ever so close 20-19 win.
The Division 3 Ladies started the weekend with their Friday Pennant. Broadbeach proved to be too strong and took all three rinks with an overall score of 16 points and sent our Division 3 Ladies to 3rd spot on the ladder. With two games left in their Pennant this year, their next two games are must wins.

It wasn’t all happy faces for our three times on return to the Club. Our Division 5 managed to get up, but Division 6 and Division 7 went down narrowly in matches that would have been lovely to win.
It’s the back end of the competition now with just three rounds left to play. The teams are performing well but just not getting across the line in some cases. It has definitely built a hunger coming into Round 5 with everyone eager to put it all together and finish out their campaigns as strong as possible.
The respective ladders in each division are rather close with each of our teams able to build up points to make the finals, on the condition they win at least 2 of their next 3 outings and other teams in their divisions slip up. It would be terrific to see all three teams win all three of the last rounds and that is definitely what they will be aiming to do!
Round 5 teams see almost no changes across the board:
Division 5 GREEN have had a couple of minor setbacks throughout the Pennant Season – just missing out on rinks wins and only losing a single overall match, but now find themselves well within reach of a podium finish.
Currently sitting in 4th place on their ladder and only 4 points behind the leader, they are pumped and ready to rock ‘n’ roll the rest of the competition.
Round 5
Round 6
Round 7
Their draw for the rest of the season is going to allow them to pile on some points and potentially knock out some of the top contenders that are hindering their progression.
Coming off a close call win against Mudgeeraba, they will be out in force this week against Musgrave Hill at home and aiming to get a much needed 16 point win. They have the team to do it and they are settled in now. They will be coming out hard & fast this weekend to make sure the score favours them on all three rinks.
It’s been a difficult road for Division 6 GOLD thus far. Defeating the current number 1 team, defeating the current number 3 team, but then losing to rank 4 and hard to swallow loss last week to Musgrave who are sitting in 7th. Sitting in 6th spot they are in with a good chance to make a comeback.
It’s going to be a big ask for Div 6 this week as they head to Burleigh to play the rank 2 team. A win for them this weekend will do some damage to the table and allow them to progress.
Round 5
Round 6
Round 7
The imperative win needed this weekend will hopefully give them the boost needed to finish the season strong & hard with 3 wins almost definitely giving them a shot in the finals.
There is a bit of leeway on their ladder. First look shows that there is a bit of a margin between the top 5, but some of the top teams will need to face each other in the coming weeks which will cause some shuffle.
Division 7 ORANGE come off their first loss in the competition. Going down to Paradise Point who sit top of the ladder. It wasn’t enough to knock ORANGE out of 2nd place, but it did allow Woongoolba to surge up and sit in third just 2 points behind McKenzie Park.
Round 5
Round 6
Round 7
Their draw will allow their last games to delve into the bottom half of the ladder but becoming complacent could easily be their undoing. An all 3 rink win this weekend against Musgrave Hill will be critical to their success. It would normally be a match with a shadow casted over it given the difference in our green speeds, but coming from Paradise Point to Musgrave will be a blessing in disguise as both greens are running almost identical – and the wind at Paradise was just like the Windy Hill!
Kyle Asquith sets off to Robina this weekend to start his Champion of Club Champion Singles.
On Sunday the 4th at 9:00AM Kyle will meet Paradise Point – Darren Christie which will prove to be an extremely interesting game and well worth the trip down to give Kyle some support.
Good luck everyone this weekend and it would be amazing to see all our players & teams coming home with some big wins!
